NBA 2K19 Squad Review ft: @Whitlow_ @6footbig @King_Armour

NBA 2K19 has been out for about a month now so I decided to ask a few of my friends on their reviews of the game. I like to hear the regular person's review versus a Youtuber's or Gaming Company's review because it is more of a representation of how the game is. I also have a review and I'll be sharing mine last.

Spencer's Review @6footBig

This year phrase “They will know your name” is the motto of the year. This means that the MyCareer mode will be more is more leaning towards you making a name for yourself. Does the game do that? Yes! Does the game make sense? No. NBA 2K19 is a game filled with some good things but close to a million bad things.

When you first start up the game there is a 85% chance you wont even connect to the servers. That there should be your first indicator that this game is broken. Once you finally connect to the servers you’re prompted to go on and move towards MyCareer with the motto in mind “They will know your name” from all the advertisement. Once you load in you create your player and the story mode named “The Prelude”. Which is not bad but filled with interesting cut scenes. Once you finish the Prelude you load into your MyCourt and will probably never go back there again. From there you move to The Neighborhood.

In The Neighborhood you can do a lot, go to the practice facility, change clothes and grab gear in the NBA Store and Swags, buy tattoos, different ways to get around the neighborhood from wheels where you can buy a scooter, skateboard, and bike. Now the great thing about the neighborhood is that the haircuts are free, last year you had to spend 1,000 VC (Virtual Currency) to get one. You also have the Gatorade training facility where you can get more stamina which is easy and helpful. They also includes events into the Neighborhood which include dodgeball, red ball vs blue ball and trivia with other time limited events they include. Its more redefined than last year and that’s a plus to make it more like a living world.

The gameplay is somewhat redefined with more mechanics for defense and offense. Starting with offense, the dribbling is broken, the shooting can sometimes be off, lay ups are still being missed by NBA players, post offense plays are beyond over powered, spin jumpers can be abused by almost any archetype and much more.

On to Defensive side of the ball. Now I do understand that in last years game there was a drop off in defense and little was played. The steals in the game are beyond ridiculous, The way someone can barely dribble into and lose the ball does not make sense, lockdown defenders are praised beyond belief. They can shoot, they can dribble, they can steal, they can play perfect help defense, like there is no penalty for making one because their offensive game is just as good as any other build.

The game also includes a “TAKEOVER Badge” which enhances each build in a certain way. Playmakers can get more ankles breakers, slashers can get more contact dunks and rebounders can see where the ball will fall once the shot is missed. That feature is a good add on to the game but it does not make the offensive side of the ball fun to play on.

When playing the computer on MyCareer that is a whole new monster while playing on the SuperStar Difficulty and above. The defense they play is LOCKDOWN and the offense they play is great as well. Now this is not a complain but it can come to be annoying from time to time for guard play. Being a Point Guard is filled with lost of turnover off bumps, simple passes are intercepted, and close to every pick and roll is read by the defense and sniffed out to be stopped. Its worth it playing on All-Star and below if you would like to just grind out badges and enjoy the game, if you would like a challenge its there.

The online mode in Park, Pro-Am, and the Jordan Rec center is filled with lots of things that make you questions on who approved this on final release. All people do online is reach for the ball, abuse and spam dribble moves and left right moves. Now none of this is new to people who have played this franchise game for more than 2 years. Ill admit they have done little to fix it but the community is just toxic and filled with people who just want to play the game of basketball childish. Its always been a game filled with animations and some are good but some are beyond me.

In my opinion NBA 2K19 is not a bad game when you look at the full scope of things, you just have to know what you’re getting into before you make that $60 or $100 purchase. The game can be improved in lots of ways but if you can find a way to overlook them then you can enjoy this years game with what they have to offer from this franchise game.

*Disclaimer*
Play Now, MyTeam, and Myleague are modes I have not played so I cannot review something I have not played.
 With that being said I give 2k a 6/10
 Whitlow's Review @Whitlow_

NBA 2K19 is cool, but it’s still ass. Like it’s better that 17 & 18 but that ain’t saying much. Still hella cheesy moves and exploits. Ain’t much to really separate the skilled players from the ones who just spam dribble moves or spam the steal button. They still haven’t made any strides to really fix the problems the 2K community are asking them to fix. So honestly NBA 2K19 is pussy......

So are the developers who ain't fixing this shit.

With that being said I give 2k 7/10

Triston's Review @King_Armour

NBA 2K19 is a perfect example of a company listening to their customers just enough to keep them from jumping ship. The game made improvements but also created new problems. While fixing the blow bys on the offense end they have now made stealing the easiest thing to do on the game . 2k improved on making contested shots more difficult but then makes layups the hardest thing to do on the game. Another thing 2k worked on was the myplayer storyline by adding a skip button 2k knowingly or unknowingly made myplayer 10x better. The storyline is more interesting and will definitely keep gamers attention longer than last years.

In conclusion 2k has made adjustments that will keep their customers satisfied and from jumping ship to NBA Live (lesser product). The game still leaves room for improvement and hopefully patches throughout the year can bring back the enjoyment of playing 2k

With that being said I give 2k 6.75/10

My Review @jonesdotcome
NBA 2K19 has a beautifull shell. Outside looking in, it is an amazing game and it has undergone many improvements. But as someone who plays this game on a consisten basis, this game is some shit. The defesne is overpowered to counter act that lack of defense in previous years. The park is still full of cheese-ers . There still isn't any penalty for setting billions of screens in park or pro-am. The cage is pointless. Sharpshooters are still overpowered. V.C. is still a must buy to compete. The game just has too many problems. My-Team is better but it takes way more VC and MT to buy packs. Contracts are also still a thing which sucks due to lag outs. Speaking of lag outs, the servers are so bad that they'll cut off your entire internet. It'll have you calling your internet provider because 2k will literally break your internet. The Play Now system is still stupid and they've actually made it worse. You can't even pick jerseys at the same time. The game does sooo many things right but they just get overlooked due to poor execution.
I give 2k a 6/10
